21 Days of Fasting and Prayer

Day 1 | January 8

Scripture Reading | Luke 3:15-16

15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. 16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Scriptural Prayer

Praise and Worship
Father in Heaven, Your name is exalted throughout the earth and heavens. Your wisdom and might are unparalleled, and Your understanding is infinite. We rejoice in Your sovereign power and the hope that You have given us through the message of John the Baptist, about our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praying God’s Will
Lord, as the people were filled with expectation and questioned whether John might be the Christ, we too stand in hopeful anticipation of Your promises. We embrace the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire that Jesus brings. We yearn for Your refining fire to cleanse and renew us, and for Your Spirit to empower us to do Your will.

Praying the Request
Holy Spirit, we ask for Your presence to fill our lives just as John promised. May we be baptized with Your Spirit and fire, gaining strength and wisdom beyond our understanding. Let our lives reflect the fervor and purity that comes from You. Grant us courage to prepare the way for the Lord in our hearts and in our communities.

Praying for Forgiveness
Merciful Father, we confess our shortcomings and our need for the Savior whom John proclaimed. Forgive us for the times we have not heeded Your call to repentance and for the moments we have not borne fruit in keeping with repentance. Help us to forgive others as You have forgiven us.

Praying for Protection
Guard us, Lord, from the temptations that distract us from Your purpose. Protect our hearts from becoming hardened, and help us to always be ready for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Praise and Worship
You, Lord, are mighty and worthy of all praise. The heavens declare Your righteousness, and the people see Your glory. We await the coming of Your Son with hearts full of worship. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
